Lenovo to Make AI Servers in India, Opens Lab in Bengaluru

The company said in a statement, “Lenovo has started manufacturing of AI servers in the country. This is an important step in the tech industry. Enterprise AI and GPU servers will be manufactured in the company’s factory in Puducherry. This will help the country and the international market. The increasing need can be met. More than 60 percent of the manufacturing done in this factory will be for export to Asia-Pacific. This factory will manufacture approximately 50,000 AI rack servers and 2,400 high-end GPU units each year. This will help Lenovo strengthen its supply chain for AI solutions.
New server platforms including hardware, firmware and software will be developed and tested in its Bengaluru lab. Lenovo also has labs in America, China and Taiwan. Taiwan has a major stake in the manufacturing of AI servers. These servers made in Taiwan are used by big technology companies like Amazon, Microsoft and Nvidia.
In the second quarter of this year, American devices maker Apple has achieved 60 percent share in the market of PCs with AI features. International shipments of more than 88 lakh AI PCs have been made in the second quarter. Sales of these PCs are expected to increase in the second half of this year. Market research firm Canalys reports that Mac computers with Apple’s silicon chipsets account for 60 percent of AI PC shipments. This is much higher than Windows AI computers. However, shipments of Windows AI PCs have grown nearly 127 percent on a quarter-on-quarter basis. Lenovo’s Yoga Slim and ThinkPad laptops have a share of six percent in this segment. Dell has achieved a market share of about seven percent with its Inspiron, XPS and Latitude computers.
