Scientists say not Just One Asteroid Wiped Out Dinosaurs there was another one

Dinosaurs are said to be giant creatures that roamed the earth and on the basis of their fossils, researchers have prepared many theories about them. It is said that dinosaurs became extinct from the earth 66 million years ago, and the reason was huge asteroids falling on the earth from space. But now a new study says that asteroids were not the only culprit.

Nature A new study has been published in the journal. In this, scientists have taken detailed scans of the underwater craters near the coast of Guiana. Report According to this, based on these it has been claimed that at that time another equally big asteroid had hit the Earth. Which played an equally big role in creating such conditions on Earth and which was an equally big partner in the extinction of dinosaurs.

Scientists have measured Nadir crater. It is 8 kilometers wide. It has been claimed that this crater was created by a 400 meter wide asteroid. This asteroid hit the Earth at a speed of 72 thousand kilometers per hour. However, it has been said that it was somewhat less in size than the first asteroid. But it was still such a powerful explosion that it left a huge mark on the Earth.

Researchers have used 3D seismic imaging. This crater is 300 meters below the sea floor. That means its marks are buried under a layer of sand. Its geological features have been discovered only through seismic imaging. Dr. Nicholson, associated with the study, says that there are about 20 such marine craters around the world. But this is the first one that has been studied in such detail.

The study concludes that its impact caused intense tremors due to which the sediment present under the sea floor turned into liquid. This caused landslides that caused thousands of square miles of damage beyond the rim of the crater, traces of which still exist. Also, this collision generated a huge tsunami whose height would have been more than 800 meters and it would have reached the Atlantic Ocean. However, researchers have not yet been able to say anything concretely about the timing of this asteroid. It is said to have fallen 65 to 67 million years ago. But it is certain that more than one asteroid was involved in the extinction of the dinosaurs.
