According to reports, in recent days people have been receiving messages on their mobile numbers. It is being said that if users do not update their PAN card details within 24 hours, their India Post Payments Bank account will be blocked. A link is also being sent to people to update PAN card. People are being asked to click on the link.
Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check has termed this SMS as completely fraudulent and fake. PIB Fact Check on social media platform X has said that any SMS being sent in the name of India Post regarding PAN card update is not true. PIB says that such messages are never sent from the post office. Users have been asked to remain alert.
It is noteworthy that a large number of people in rural areas keep their accounts in post offices and can fall prey to such SMS.
